Grontmij to work on major rail project in Stuttgart
Grontmij has announced its involvement in a major infrastructure project in Stuttgart, Germany. The German Government has approved the go ahead of Stuttgart 21 which brings an important module of the TEN-T Project 17 Paris - Bratislava into realisation.
The Stuttgart 21 project comprises the replacement of the main station, along with tunneling under the entire city. The outcome of the project will be reduced journey times of over half an hour by removing the current bottle-neck at the station. Grontmij is providing planning and tender management services. Total costs are estimated to be more than € 6 billion.
Grontmij’s contract sum for the current phase of the project is over € 5.5 million. On completion of this phase, there is potential for Grontmij to be appointed on the subsequent construction supervision phase which will last until 2019.
Ulf Palmblad, Group Director Transportation & Mobility, commented: ‘With this interesting project, we are again demonstrating our ability and expertise in building high-speed railway lines and ambitious civil engineering works under challenging conditions. We are very proud to contribute with our services to this strategic infrastructure project in Germany.’
