InnoTrans 2010: international trade fair bigger than in 2008
On track for this year’s fair
Exhibitors rush to sign up shortly before deadline
More attention focused on assistance for newcomers to the industry
Leading fair for rail transport technology from 21 to 24 September in Berlin

As the year began InnoTrans, which takes place again in 2010, showed that it was well on track for renewed success. During the first days of January many new applications were received for the leading international trade fair for rail transport technology. All the signs are that, when the application deadline is reached on 12 February, more exhibitors will have registered than in 2008. “The display area already exceeds that of the previous InnoTrans”, was the interim assessment by the fair’s director Matthias Steckmann. “This is a remarkable development, considering the ongoing economic difficulties around the world. Once again this emphasises the continued appeal of this major trade show for the international transport technology sector.”

Planning for the halls that will house this event from 21 to 24 September on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds is now well advanced. For the first time the halls surrounding the Funkturm, Berlin’s radio tower, will also be used. There continues to be keen demand for displays on the 3,500 metres of rail track at the fair too. This is a unique feature of InnoTrans and is one of the factors contributing to the success of this trade show, which has steadily expanded since its inception.

As in previous years, the eighth InnoTrans will feature a number of new topics. For example, in 2010 the Interiors section will include a special area devoted to Travel Catering. The Interiors section has undergone impressive development since 2004, with growth rates of up to 60 per cent.

At this year’s InnoTrans more attention is being focused on newcomers to the industry and on career opportunities. The aim is to encourage subsequent generations to consider a career in this sector. The companies involved in the Career Point will be identified by a bright orange logo, indicating that qualified staff are available on the stand to answer queries about starting a career in the industry. This facility will be augmented by the Career Point Pavilion. Among the companies featured there will be Bombardier Transportation GmbH, Siemens AG and Vossloh AG as well as the European Railway Agency (ERA) and the German Railway Industry Association (VDB), which will be presenting their entire range of information about the assistance available to newcomers to the industry, and about training and careers. This pavilion provides a combined platform for presentations, information and communication.
