Saint Ouen Cedex, France - Alstom Transport’s Atlas control and signalling system, compliant with ERTMS Level 1 standard, is in operation since the 4th of October on the Havenspoorlijn line linking Vaanplein to Maasvlakte (The Netherlands). This 45 km line is one of the sections of the Betuweroute, freight Corridor A, linking the port of Rotterdam to Germany. Thanks to Atlas system, the trains’ travelling speed and the line’s capacity is increased without compromising safety.
Following the A 15 section, also located on the Betuweroute, the Havenspoorlijn line is the second in the Netherlands to be equipped with Atlas. In total, 110 locomotives equipped with the Atlas onboard system, including 45 diesel and 65 electric trains, are currently running on the Betuweroute.
Alstom’s sites at Charleroi (Belgium) and Utrecht (The Netherlands) took part in the Havenspoorlijn line project.
“With the installation of Atlas on this line, Alstom Transport shows its contribution to interoperability in Europe”, stated Roland Kientz, Alstom Transport Senior Vice President for North Europe.
Present for over 20 years in the Netherlands through its three sites at Ridderkerk, Utrecht and Rijswijk (The Hague), Alstom is the leading supplier of signalling equipment in the Netherlands. In addition to the Betuweroute, Alstom has also equipped with Alstom’s Level 2 Atlas ERTMS technology the Belgian section of the L4 high speed line, linking Antwerp to the Dutch border.
About ERTMS
Alstom Transport is the leader in the operational deployment of interoperability in Europe. With over 740 trains and 25 million km travelled in commercial service, around seven out of ten trains now travel under the supervision of the Atlas system in Europe. Alstom is currently working on more than 20 ERTMS projects in nine European countries, including the Rome-Naples line in Italy, the first very high speed line equipped with a Level 2 ERTMS system, and the Mattesten-Rothrist line in Switzerland, used by the biggest equipped fleet, and the Betuweroute in The Netherlands.
