Alstom installs Atlas ERTMS signalling system on the new Hanzelijn the Net
Saint Ouen Cedex, France - The Hanza Rail Team consortium consisting of Alstom and its Dutch partners Volker Rail, Strukton Rail and Arcadis, has signed a contract with Dutch infrastructure operator ProRail for the construction of the new railway line between Lelystad and Zwolle, known as the “Hanzelijn” line. The line - which is 50 kilometres long - will come into commercial service at the beginning of 2013. The contract totals €170 million, of which €27 million for Alstom. A 15-year maintenance contract for the signalling system was also awarded to Alstom.

Alstom will equip the new line with its Atlas control and signalling system, which is compatible with the ERTMS Level 2 standard, and will install the national ATB system. This project will cut the journey time from Zwolle to Amsterdam by 15 minutes. With Atlas, the speed and the capacity of the trains can be increased, in complete safety.

“This new contract confirms Alstom’s leading position in the development of interoperability in Europe,” stated Roland Kientz, Alstom Transport’s Senior Vice President, Northern Europe. “We are currently working on 20 ERTMS projects in 10 countries including the Netherlands, where we have equipped the Betuweroute.”
Present for over 20 years in the Netherlands through its three sites at Ridderkerk, Utrecht and Rijswijk (The Hague), Alstom is a historic supplier of the country’s rail sector for both mainlines and urban transport. Alstom is the largest supplier of signalling systems and equipment in the Netherlands. Besides the Betuweroute, a freight corridor linking the port of Rotterdam and Germany which has 53 locomotives equipped by Alstom with onboard ERTMS systems, the Belgian section of the L4 high-speed line is also equipped with Alstom’s ERTMS Level 2 technology.

About ERTMS
Alstom Transport is the leader in the operational deployment of interoperability in Europe, the main market in the ERTMS area. With more than 650 trains in commercial service under the supervision of ATLAS and over 19 million km travelled, Alstom holds 70% of the market for ERTMS signalling equipment on board European trains. Alstom is currently working on more than 20 ERTMS projects in 10 European countries, including the Rome-Naples line in Italy (the first very high-speed line to be equipped with an ERTMS Level 2 system) and the Mattesten-Rothrist line in Switzerland, which has the largest fleet of ERTMS-equipped trains.
